Uitenhage police have launched a manhut for two suspects who robbed a 54-year-old man of a substantial amount of money outside a local bank on Monday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said the man was about to enter the financial institution to make a deposit, when he was accosted by a man with a firearm.
She said the suspect grabbed a bag from the complainant and ran across the road to a waiting Volkswagen Caddy.
Swart said a relative of the complainant saw what happened and drove his bakkie into the Caddy.
She said the suspect jumped out of the Caddy and into another car and sped off.
No shots were fired and no one was injured in the incident.
"The VW Caddy that was used in the commission of this offence was hijacked in Kwanobuhle on the 5th of September this year. The police once again want to warn business owners not to make use of the same route and same times when doing banking," Swart said.
Swart also appealed to business owners to make use other alternatives to bank large sums of money.
