Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of attempted murder and armed robbery after a man was robbed and shot in Parliament Street in Central.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the 33-year-old man was walking in Parliament-street, shortly before midnight, when he was approached by four men who robbed him of R5 200.
She said when they asked for his cell phone, he started running and shots were fired at him. He sustained two gunshot wounds, one in the shoulder and one in his left foot.
The man was taken to hospital where he was treated and later discharged.
The suspects sped off in a Silver VW Polo which was later spotted by SAPS on the M4 freeway.
Naidu said the occupants were questioned and were taken to the police station when SAPS noticed two bullet holes in the body of the vehicle.
The car was also confiscated for further investigation.
