A 41-year-old man will spend the next seven years in prison after admitting in court that his actions led to the death of another person.

Dumisani Sotafile and the 39-year-old victim Silulami Mhlanga were drinking at a tavern in Sea Vista, St Francis in June this year when an argument broke out.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli says Sotafile hit Mhlanga with a beer bottle over his head and he collapsed.

He says the victim was taken to his home where he started bleeding from his nose and died.

Sotafile was charged with murder but after admitting his guilt and taking a plea deal he was charged for culpable homicide and sentenced in the Humansdorp Regional Court on Monday.
