The Buffalo City Metro and National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) have issued a warning to bathers to be cautious along the coastline between East London and North of Chinsta.
This after a 38-year-old man went missing on Tuesday while bodyboarding.
A spokesperson for the NSRI Craig Lambinon says the man was bodyboarding near the surf line in Chinsta and later in the day his board washed up on the beach.
He says the board had bite marks that may have been from a shark and this will now be investigated.
The K9 unit search and rescue team as well as the diving unit is continuing the search on Wednesday.
They are being assisted by a private helicopter from a local businessman who volunteered to assist.
Lambinon says friends of the missing man have also launched boats to assist the police.
