Man jailed for 25 years for his part in attack on Mthatha nun

The Mthatha High Court has acquitted the man charged with the murder of much loved Mthatha Catholic nun, Sister Mary Paul Tacke, but sentenced him to an effective 25-year prison sentence for kidnapping and robbery related to the attack on the nun.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Luxolo Tyali said that Asiphe Ndikinda was acquitted on a charge of murder at the Mthatha High Court on Thursday.

However, Tyali said Ndikinda was sentenced to 18 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, two years for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and five years for kidnapping.

The 82-year-old nun’s body was found in a stream between Tyharha village and Nyandeni Great Place in Libode on June 16 last year.

Tacke was abducted the day before as she finished delivering food to her children’s project, the Thembelihle Home, in Norwood in Mthatha.

The acquittal of Ndikinda on the murder charge has left no one responsible for the murder of the nun.
