Man gunned down outside Bay workplace

File

Gqeberha police are searching for the assailants who shot and killed an engineering manager at Algoa Bus Company on Thursday morning.

The company said in a statement that 53-year-old Timothy Botha was killed on the company premises.

Managing Director, Douglas Govender, said the "assassins" initially approached the company boom gate but were sent away by a security guard.

He said they scaled a boundary wall to make their way onto the premises.

"Algoa Bus Company is truly saddened by the untimely passing of Mr Timothy Botha. The management and staff have lost a leader with true ethical values," Govender said.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said that the deceased arrived at his place of work in Perl Road at around 7 am.

She said a security officer reported hearing several gunshots being fired in the parking lot and activated the alarm.

Janse Van Rensburg said when it was quiet the security officer found the deceased with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

“The motive and the suspects are unknown, and a case of murder is currently under investigation.

“Police are appealing to anyone who can assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects who can contact Detective Warrant Officer Errol Kleinhans on 083 243 4567 or our SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station,” she said.
