A 52-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment at the East London High Court for the gruesome murder of his 37-year-old girlfriend.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani, said Ayanda Matika was sentenced for the February 2019 murder of Busisiwe Ngwadla on Thursday.
She said the couple argued before Matika stabbed her 12 times at her Emerald Sky Flats residence in Amalinda.
Ngcakani said the neighbours heard Ngwadla’s horrific screams which lasted for about five minutes, before going next door to check on them.
“They continued banging on the door until Matika who was in a calm demeanour eventually opened and said that everything was fine now,” she said.
Ngcakani said he then changed into clean clothes and left to the Airport to book a ticket to Cape town and fled to his home in Gugulethu.
Ngwandla's naked body was later found in a pool of blood.
Ngcakani said the forensic report revealed that she tried to escape from the flat as there was blood everywhere, including walls and doors.
She said Matika was arrested in Cape Town three weeks after the incident.
This, after sending a voice note to a friend confessing to the murder because of her alleged infidelity.
