A man was killed, after allegedly tampering with George Municipal infrastructure.

Municipality spokesperson, Chantelle Edwards-Klose, said his body was found on Wednesday at the Tamsui Sub-Station.

“A large portion of Thembalethu and sections of Rosedale were affected by the subsequent power outage,” she said.

Edwards-Klose said that George Municipality was conducting an investigation relating to Occupational Health and Safety, which will be submitted to the Department of Labour and the SAPS.

She said an inquest docket has also been opened into the man’s death.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a four-year-old child from the Asazani Informal settlement was admitted to hospital, after coming into contact with an electrical cable which was illegally connected between houses.

George Acting Municipal Manager, Steven Erasmus, said both incidents were regarded in a serious light and that the highly dangerous conditions caused by illegal connections, cannot be emphasized enough.

“George Municipality remains deeply concerned for the lives of innocent children, adults as well as animals,” he said.
