An Eastern Cape man who was abducted from his workshop in Butterworth last week has dropped the charges against the suspect in custody.
On Thursday police issued an alert after the 33-year-old Schalk van der Merwe was forced into his Audi A3 by several armed men.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Sibongile Soci says his mother was present during the incident but was not harmed.
van der Merwe's vehicle was found abandoned in the Mtebele bushes in Ngqamakhwe on Friday and Saturday police found him wandering alone in the streets nearby.
Soci says a 30-year-old suspect was taken in for questioning and subsequently arrested after being linked to the crime.
The suspect was due to appear in court on Monday but van der Merwe withdrew the charges.
Soci told Algoa FM News that she could not discuss the reasons cited by van der Merwe as to why the charges were withdrawn.
