East London police arrested a man on Thursday, shortly after a home in Beacon Bay was robbed of hundreds of thousands of rands worth of goods.
Police captain Mluleki Mbi says a suspect entered the house at lunch time and ordered a woman who works as a domestic worker to keep quiet before tying her and locking her up in a wardrobe.
The man and his accomplices then ransacked the house and loaded items including television sets, laptops, dvd players a firearm and a video camera into the family car parked in the driveway.
Mbi says members of the Mdantsane crime prevention unit later spotted the vehicle and managed to arrest a suspect while another man fled into the bushes.
All the goods robbed from the house were recovered along with the car and a 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine.
