A mother from Wells Estate who left three children in the care of her boyfriend will have to deal with funeral arrangements a week before Christmas.
This after the shack of 36-year-old Mzwamadoda Petros caught fire in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says SAPS Swartkops responded to a complaint of a shack fire in Anovuyo, Wells Estate where community members informed them about a fire.
She says they tried in vain to extinguish the fire but the flames were too high.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says after the blaze was doused the body of Petros and three young children were discovered.
The victims were identified as two-year-old Olonthando Paulus and his sister, one-year-old Simnikiwe.
According to their mother, she left her children with Petros as well as her friend's 18-month-old baby who was identified as Oyama Rilityana.
The cause of the fire is unknown and an inquest docket was opened.
