The Mossel Bay man who died in a house fire on Tuesday night has been identified as the 60-year-old Dirk Wolvaardt.
Wolvaardt was home alone with his two Chihuahua dogs when a fire broke out at around 6 pm.
His daughter, Chantelle Keyter told Algoa FM News that her father lived alone in his home in Heiderand.
He has been in Mossel Bay for the past 28 years and would have celebrated his 61st birthday next week.
Keyter says the cause of the fire is not yet known.
She says his dogs died with him in the fire.
Mossel Bay police have opened an inquest docket.
