Man accused of killing girlfriend appears in Patensie court

Community members marched to the Patensie Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning, to hand over a petition to the court.

Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart says it is alleged that this follows the murder of a 30-year-old woman by her alleged boyfriend last month.

She says the suspect, also 30,  is due in court for a bail application.

Swart says members from neighbouring police stations were deployed to monitor the situation.

She says on the 27th of May the suspect and his girlfriend Monique Du Plooy were walking home together when an argument broke out where he allegedly stabbed her to death.

The suspect was arrested soon after the murder but community members were so outraged that they set his house on fire.

The Humansdorp Cluster Commander Brigadier John Lebok strongly condemned the violent acts by the community and said those responsible will be brought to book.

The suspect made his first appearance in the Hankey Magistrates Court.
