Maimane shares plans to fast track service delivery with Nelson Mandela Bay communities

DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, unveiled a programme to fast track service of delivery in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The party's, Cities Delivering Better Services paper, was shared with the community of Gqeberha on Tuesday.

According to Maimane's speech notes, the document contains the party's track record of successes in other municipalities where it governs.

"When the DA talks about service delivery, we aren't making empty promises. Be it water, electricity or sanitation, the DA beats every other party. Stats SA's community survey released this month shows that the DA-run Western Cape leads all provinces in provision of piped water, improved sanitation and electricity, providing to 97%, 95% and 97% of all households respectively" he said.

Maimane said the document also reaffirms the party's commitment to providing basic services, prioritising previously disadvantaged South Africans.

"Every DA government is committed to providing a free basket of basic services - including 6 000 litres of water and 50 kilowatts of electricity per household per month for free to our most vulnerable households" He added.

He said the party was committed to ensuring all RDP house owners were given title deeds.

"We have made the upgrade of informal settlements and backyard dwellings our top priority. This document goes into greater detail on how this would be achieved. We're also committed to ensuring that every homeowner has a title deed for their home. This will give millions of South Africans access to the credit they need to raise loans and start their own businesses" he said

Maimane also returned to visit two households after promising earlier to hire a contractor to fix a leaking roof.

"On my last visit to this community, these two houses had a massive hole in the roof. I met one of the homeowners here. He told me about the struggle of living in a house that floods whenever it rains. This struggle, common to far too many South Africans, is being ignored by the ANC everywhere I go. Throughout this campaign, I've seen and met South Africans without proper roofs, without water and electricity, without rubbish collection, without the quality services that make life so much easier" Maimane said.

Maimane together with the DA's Nelson Mandela Bay mayoral candidate, Athol Trollip, also visited Zwide Township and have planned to hold a public meeting in Hevenvale.
