Magistrate still not ready to sentence Roland Williams

Sentencing proceedings in the fraud case of former Nelson Mandela Bay communications Director, Roland Williams, have again been delayed.

Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court Magistrate, Lionel Lindoor, was expected to sentence Williams on Friday.

However, he said he was still not ready to do so after previously delaying sentencing on Monday.

Lindoor said that he was still not convinced that direct imprisonment was not an appropriate sentence as argued by William's defence attorney, Kuban Chetty.

He said he would request a probation officer to investigate William's personal circumstances and whether he is his family's primary caregiver

Lindoor also questioned why Williams' wife, Shahnaz, was not employed considering that she was still a young woman.

He said he would also like a representative from Santam to testify on how insurance fraud affects business.

Williams could face up to 15 years behind bars should Lindoor decide to not deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence.

The case was postponed to the 3rd of May.
