Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane will be in Kariega on Tuesday for an announcement by Volkswagen Group Africa of a massive investment into the local plant for the production of a new vehicle.
According to an advisory, Bhisho said Mabuyane would "attend the significant R4 billion Volkswagen Africa Group (VWA) investment announcement in Kariega, Nelson Mandela Bay Metro."
"This momentous occasion will mark VWA's additional investment in the manufacturing of a third small SUV model at the Kariega Plant from 2027.
"The investment signals and reaffirms the commitment of the Volkswagen Group to South Africa and the African continent.
"This is a necessary condition for the growth of the economy and the creation of jobs on a scale that will significantly reduce levels of unemployment in the province," it added.
Bhisho said such an "investment in production sectors of the economy is vital to the Provincial Government’s ongoing efforts in reducing poverty and inequality."
"VWA continues to play a substantial role in the economic development of the province, by creating job opportunities, especially for the youth."
