An Eastern Cape prison warder had a lucky escape in the Port Elizabeth magistrate court on Thursday.
The Department of Correctional Services confirmed that a sentenced prisoner from Hankey, who was back in court in PE on another matter, snatched the service pistol from the prison warder.
Department spokesperson, Zama Feni, says shortly before the lunch adjournment, 25-year old Luciano Meyer pointed the gun at the official, 36-year old Mxolisi Mkonjeni and pulled the trigger twice, but NO shot went off.
He said the magazine had been removed from the fire-arm.
Feni says Meyer, who is serving a two year sentence for theft in Patensie, was then restrained.
