An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale struck Oudtshoorn on Tuesday morning.
The head of disaster management for the Eden district, Gerard Otto, says the shaker rumbled through Oudtsoorn at about 08h20.
Otto said the tremor could be felt as far away as George and that the Cango Caves had been closed as a precautionary measure.
Chantel Edward-Klose of the George municipality says the low grade tremor ran 6km deep along the Cango faultline.She says no damage has been reported at the Cango Caves or elsewhere in what she described as an isolated event.
