Eastern Cape Local Government MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, says he's still waiting for formal notification from Nelson Mandela Bay on yesterday's vote of no confidence in acting municipal manager, Themba Hani.
Some ANC councillors, in defiance of provincial orders, voted with the opposition party on the vote of no confidence which effectively led to Hani's sacking.
The ANC has since warned of disciplinary action against the errant councillors.
In a statement overnight, MEC Qoboshiyane said Hani's secondment was facilitated through a council decision and effected through Section 154 of the Constitution.
Qoboshiyane also recently appointed a team of general managers in a bid to bring stability to Nelson Mandela Bay.
Dr Joleen Steyn -Kotze, of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University's politics department, says opposition parties are probably seeking to exploit the divisions in the ANC in the Metro.
She says the vote of no confidence should be read in the context of parties playing a strategic political chess game.
"Opposition political parties are aware that there is a lot of discontent and disharmony within the local ANC and therefore may have decided to say right, lets follow on the national vote of no confidence against Zuma and see if one can do a similar move in the Metro" Steyn-Kotze said
