A middle aged artist from Albertinia, who was attacked in her art gallery on Monday near the Gouritz River Bridge, is in a stable condition.
The woman was admitted to the Mossel Bay Provincial Hospital with various injuries.
The 53 year old Jacolene du Preez was confronted by a group of boys who asked her for water after which they
assaulted her.
The victim was hit with a rock in her face and also cut with a knife. She sustained various other injuries.
Police confirmed that the five teenagers escaped from a correctional youth centre in George last week.
A police vehicle that drove past the group on the N2 highway chased them after they started running away when they saw the marked vehicle. The suspects also dropped bags that were filled with stolen goods.
They were arrested and appeared in the Albertinia Magistrate Court on Wednesday.
