A Port Elizabeth man, convicted of more than a dozen sexual offence charges, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the city's high court.
The 40- year old man was convicted earlier in June on four charges, including rape and the sexual assault of minor children.
His-co-accused, a 42-year-old Rowallan Park woman, was also sentenced to 5 years imprisonment on charges of consensual rape and consensual assault.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Hannelie Bakker said that she received a further 12 months and 1 month imprisonment in respect of the other charges. Accused number two was found guilty of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment on the rape, on sexual assault to 3-years , sexual grooming of a child to 3- years , exposing a child to pornography to 2- years and for the possession of child pornography to 2- years imprisonment.
All sentences are to run concurrently.
A third accused was acquitted in May on all charges.
The trio was accused of engaging in sex on more than one occasion with the woman's 13-year old adopted daughter between December 2011 and February 2012.
The man sentenced to life has brought forward an application to the court for leave to appeal, and judgement is expected on Wednesday.
