A 34-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2020 murder of a Gqeberha police officer.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, says Dumile Ndzombana was sentenced at the city's High Court on Thursday.
She says Ndzombana fatally shot and killed Sergeant Miniyake Kolela in Bethelsdorp after he and his partner spotted a vehicle that was involved in a Kabega Park house robbery earlier that same day.
Mgolodela says when they approached the car, the suspects jumped out, started to flee and shot towards them.
She says Sergeant Kolela was shot dead at the scene, while his partner managed to chase after Ndzombana and arrested him.
He was also sentenced to an additional 15 years for house robbery and eight years for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
