Twenty-six year old Vuyani Zondani has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the Port Elizabeth High court for the murder of a police constable.
In April 2012, 26-year old Constable Thandiswe Bambiswe, a mother of three, was shot dead while patrolling the streets of Veeplaas.
Her colleague Constable Mongezi Mqina was also shot and sustained severe facial injuries.
As a result, he had to undergo reconstructive surgery to his mouth and jaw and a part of his tongue had to be removed as a result of the gunshot wound.
During Thursday's court proceedings, Judge Jean Nepgen sentenced Zondani to life imprisonment for murder,10 years for attempted murder, 15 years for the unlawful possession of firearm and 5 years for the illegal possession of ammunition.
