The Oudtshoorn Regional Court has sentenced a 41-year-old rapist to life imprisonment following several violent incidents that threatened the safety of four young teenagers.
Western Cape police management has applauded the conviction and subsequent sentencing of the suspect on Wednesday.
His reign of terror began in early October 2019 on a farm just outside Oudtshoorn when he attacked a 17-year-old youth with a pair of scissors.
A month later the man, who may not be named to protect his victims, raped two 14-year-old girls at Toekomsrus, Oudtshoorn.
A third girl, aged 15 at the time, also alerted the police about incidents of rape involving the same man.
A team of investigators attached to the Oudtshoorn Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences was assembled and following a thorough investigation arrested the suspect on various charges.
The accused had family connections to the victims and was convicted last month ahead of sentencing.
Acting Western Cape Police Commissioner, Major General Thembisile Patekile, thanked the detection and prosecuting teams for their diligence in securing the convictions and subsequent sentences.
