The Life Health-Care Group and Metropol Hospitals says it continues to invest in its facilities in Port Elizabeth.
The Group on Monday unveiled its new, state-of-the-art paediatric and neo-natal intensive care units at Life St George's Hospital, totalling R25m.
Hospital manager, Andre' Bothma, says the neo-natal intensive care unit was upgraded to the tune of R9.5m while the relocation and expansion of the paediatric unit saw an additional investment of R15.5m.
He says both of the upgraded and expanded units are family-centred care units and is in line with the Group's strategic initiatives.
"We are exciting to expand two ouf our specialist units to enhance the levels of service and care experienced by our patients. The community of Port Elizabeth can look forward to receiving world class neonatal and paediatric care in more spacious, modern facilities - truly Centres of Excellence."
Bothma says the new NICU has a lounge for families to relax within the units and the "design is better able to accommodate the practice of skin-to-skin contact between the mother and baby, breast feeding and expressing.
"The paediatric unit boasts an indoor and outdoor play facilities for patients," he added.
