A nine-year-old girl from Pacaltsdorp in George, who was attacked by her family’s dog a year ago, will receive free plastic and reconstructive surgery in Knysna on Monday.
The family’s pitbull bit Lelitha Jantjies in the face in September last year while she was at her home.
The animal was euthanized shortly after the incident.
A doctor from George, Ansua Steyn-Ahlstrom heard about the incident and decided to approach various institutions and doctors to help restore Lelitha’s face, free of charge.
The team of doctors, including a plastic surgeon from Knysna and a Garden Route anaesthesiologist agreed to give their time and specialist care and assist her with the procedure at the Advanced Knysna Surgical Centre.
Lelitha’s scars will be removed and softened during the procedure.
Doctor Steyn-Ahlstrom has since started the #DrAnsuaFoundation and plans to help patients on a monthly basis.
