A local resident has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of well known East London business man, Lulamile Mbewana.He was shot and killed while in his car with a female companion at Amalinda in June of last year. The woman was later raped in nearby bushes.
Captain Mluleki Mbi says police investigators followed up on several leads which led them to the whereabouts of their prime suspect.
A fire arm, as well as an i-phone, keys and a wrist watch stolen from Mbewana, were recovered from the accused during his arrest. The East London Regional Court imposed a life sentence for murder on 35-year-old Andile Mxakatho as well as 15 years for aggravated robbery and ten years for rape.
The Cambridge station commander, Brigadier Nomso Siganga commended the investigating team and the prosecuting authority for the successful handling of the case.
