Legal representation key aspect in Motherwell case

File

The legal representation of the four people accused of the Motherwell shooting incident in Gqeberha two weeks ago was the key aspect during the court proceedings in the local magistrates' court on Monday

Andisiwe Zondani, Siphamandla Matsha, Siphokazi Mabutho, and Ayanda Yekela face a string of charges following the incident which claimed the lives of two people and wounded two more in Unit 12.

According to the police, the four gained entry to the house and opened fire at the victims.

On Monday last week, the accused said they would be using the services of private attorneys for their cases.

However, during Monday's proceedings, Zondani, Matsha, and Yekela backtracked on their decision to appoint a private attorney and told the court that they would be making use of the services of legal aid.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old woman, Siphokazi Mabutho, stuck to her guns and told the magistrate that she would be using the services of a legal practitioner named Kelvin,  whose surname she could not remember.

All four accused said they intend to abandon their bid for bail.

The matter was then remanded to the 29th of October for Mabutho's attorney to attend court

And to the 24th of November for further investigations of the other three accused.
