More than 300 learners at Patensie Secondary School have embarked on a protest against teacher shortages.
The decision to protest was taken at a meeting of the school's governing body yesterday to put pressure on Eastern Cape education authorities to address the situation.
School principal, Gregory Prince, says they are short of four teachers for Afrikaans, Life Orientation, Arts and Culture and Technology.
He says the school has ground to a halt because of the protest which is taking place on the school grounds.
Police are monitoring the situation which remains peaceful.
