Learners at Walmer High School in Port Elizabeth were in shock today when told of the death of Grade 11 learner, Mpumulelo Apleni.
Apleni (19) was killed on Friday night in a hit and run accident on the Seaview Road.
Walmer police are appealing for help in tracking down the occupants of a VW Polo, believed to be silver in colour, which allegedly drove deliberately into Apleni and some friends.
One other person was injured.
ANC PR councillor, Marion Harning, says teachers and learners were very upset when told about Apleni's untimely death.
"The teachers that we first broke the news to were very, very distressed and upset. I wasn't with the learners when they were given the news but it was reported that when his grade 11 class was told the news they were very distressed and counselling had to be given because this was a boy who was a leader and extremely well loved," she said.
Anyone who have information on the accident and the damaged car should contact the Walmer police.
