The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has issued the following update following a night of heavy rain and flooding on Wednesday:
The South African Weather Service advised the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality that light rain is expected between midnight and the early hours of tomorrow. However the rain is predicted to increase in intensity tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday with an average rainfall of between 10mm and 15mm per day.
Road Closures:
Seaview Road, Rocklands Road and the Lake Farm Road are still closed at this stage and motorists are requested to be extremely careful on the N2 at the Standford Road bridge in a Easterly direction.
Water supply to KwaNobuhle:
The pipeline that crosses the Brak River was damaged last night (Wednesday, October 17) when the river came down and as a result the water supply to KwaNobuhle Area 9 and 10 as well as Rooihoogte is effected at this stage. Water tankers are deployed in the affected areas. Even though municipal officials have the correct fittings to fix the pipe it is not possible to commence with repairs as the terrain is inaccessible.
Water supply hoax:
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality would like to categorically state that the claim that a major pipeline burst at the Groendal dam is untrue. This claim and suggestions that the dam wall of the Groendal dam caved in was the subject of several hoax messages that did the rounds today. Several recipients of these malicious messages contacted the municipality's Joint Operations Centre in a state of panic to find out if it is true. These deliberate attempts to create fear and chaos are rejected in the strongest terms.
