The North End Lake in Port Elizabeth is polluted in excess of the permissible standard for full recreational purposes.
That's according to a report to be submitted to the Public Health Committee next week.
The Public Health Directorate states in the report that the water originates from all types of ground surfaces around the lake and further away.
It says there is no control over the inflow, as well as the quality of the water, while debris and all sorts of contaminants enter the lake, adding that the water becomes stagnant - which is conducive to bacterial growth.
