Officials from the Department of Labour and Employment will return to East London's Frere Hospital on Sunday.
That's to conduct a follow-up inspection, after issuing a notice for the closure of the hospital last week for not complying with certain aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Mabuyane and Minister Thulas Nxesi held a virtual meeting on Saturday night to address the crisis.
In a joint statement, they said the Provincial Health Department has resolved many of the issues raised by the Labour Department.
Sunday's inspection will verify those assurances, and any further disputes will be lodged by the Department's chief inspector.
The Eastern Cape Department of Health will, in turn, hold off on legal action, preferring instead to deal with the matter through inter-governmental channels.
Meanwhile, nursing union, Denosa, says it supports the closure of Frere Hospital.
Union spokesperson, Khaya Sodidi, says they've been complaining about a lack of proper protection and control measures at the hospital to deal with Covid19.
He says the Labour Department's notice to the hospital, follows industrial action by nurses and other staff over the apparent lack of proper protection for them.
