Firms and industries in the Port Elizabeth area will be under the spotlight on Monday, when the Deputy Minister of Labour, Nkosi Holomisa, together with inspectors from the Department will conduct unannounced inspections at firms that persistently contravene various labour laws.
The Department says in a statement various companies and firms in the city are known for serial contraventions of labour legislations, such as the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the Unemployment Insurance Act , the Employment Equity Act, the Labour Relations Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Another contravention is that of the Compensation of Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.
It is expected that inspectors will issue notices and advice to various contravening companies.
The Department says some of these companies might face the consequence of being referred to the Labour Court for fines.
