A Kwazulu Natal man has been arrested for the illegal possession of perlemoen.
Police spokesperson, captain Mali Govender, says the 57-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday by members of Grahamstown's highway patrol.
She says the police were conducting vehicle checks when they stopped the man driving a convertible car on the N2.
"On searching the vehicle they found abalone packed in cooler boxes and bags amid clothing and vegetables the price of abalone varies and can be sold for up to R450p/kg. The suspect is detained in Grahamstown and will appear in the local magistrates court on a charge of possession of abalone" Govender said.
