Four Kwazulu Natal police members and a security guard have been arrested for kidnapping two men and trying to extort money from them.
Police said the incident happened late on Wednesday night when the five abducted the two men in Springfield at gunpoint and took them to a nearby truck yard where they demanded 50-thousand rand from them.
Police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala, said one of the victims was released to go and get the money but instead notified the police.
Three male police officers and a female officer, as well as a security guard, were subsequently arrested while a police vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also confiscated.
Gwala says the five are due to appear in court soon facing charges of kidnapping, extortion, pointing of a firearm, theft of a cellphone and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
