Kwonobuhle woman arrested for child abandonment

Uitenhage police have traced and arrested the mother of a three day old baby boy who was found abandoned on a street pavement over the weekend.

Police spokesperson, warrant officer Gerda Swart says the 30-year old woman was arrested at her home in Kwanobuhle on Friday.

Swart says the suspect faces charges of child abandonment and the concealment of birth and will appear in court on Monday.

The baby will remain at a place of safety.
