The Kouga Municipality has announced the imminent roll-out of its residential load management project.
The energy saving project is funded by the National Energy Regulator and implement by Eskom with private sector partner, Escotek.
It requires the installation of switches to the geysers of six thousands households in Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, St Francis Bay and surrounding areas.
These can then be switched off remotely during peak demands times between six and eight at night.
Kouga's portfolio councillor for Infrastructure, Planning and Development, Patrick Kota, says they will start informing communities about the roll-out of the energy saving project this week, which will take about a year to fully implement.
He says the installations will be done by Escotek employees will be properly branded and carrying proper identification.
"I know sometimes people would not want to allow strangers to come into their homes, but we do have a by-law covering that. That is why we are rolling out the participation programme at all communities" he said
