Kouga Municipality confirms covid19 case in St Francis Bay

The Kouga Municipality has confirmed “with deep regret” that it has its first case of the coronavirus.

Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, said in a statement on Sunday that while the person is not a resident of Kouga, the patient is in St Francis Bay.

“The Department of Health has stepped in to ensure that all quarantine measures are in place.  We ask that residents do not panic,” he said.

Hendricks said that the Department will be tracing everyone who was in contact with the woman.

“Staying at home is the best way to safeguard your family.  If you have to go and buy food please maintain social distancing and don’t touch your face unless you have washed your hands,” he said.

The Kouga Mayor also appealed to all residents to adhere to the restrictions of the lockdown.

The St Francis Bay patient is part of the ten cases of covid19 confirmed in the Eastern Cape as of Saturday while the number of cases countrywide rose to 1187.
