Knysna ward projects to continue

Knysna Executive Mayor Cllr Georlene Wolmarans announced that the Council's Ward Project programme will continue in the 2014/2015 financial year.

The programme which was established in 2011 has achieved great success to date. For the 2014/15 financial year, the capital projects in wards will remain at R200 000 per ward and the programme has been fully integrated with the ward-based development programme and the IDP.

Knysna Executive Mayor, Georlene Wolmarans, said the success of these projects contributed positively to the quality of life of Knysna's communities. "Some of the projects to date include the refurbishment of tourist facilities; creation of play parks; construction of wheelchair ramps; installation of guard rails; and paving of side-walks just to name a few. These projects, albeit small in nature, proved to have had an immediate and meaningful impact on the lives of our people. We believe that the success of these programmes can be attributed to the active involvement of the communities; they decided what they needed and we listened", added Mayor Wolmarans.

"Another tangible outcome of this programme is the creation of job opportunities and its contribution to the economy of our town as a result thereof. We are leveraging our service delivery programmes to create short-term work opportunities providing a much needed source of income in many households. To truly become a town where people and nature prosper we will continue to grow this Ward Project Programme." concluded Mayor Wolmarans.
