Knysna Teacher's rape case to go to trial

The rape and sexual assault case against a Knysna deputy principal was transferred to the Knysna Regional Court for trial.

The 52-year-old Fraaisig Primary School teacher, who allegedly raped and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old pupil, briefly appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Monday, but the matter was transferred and postponed to March 7 this year.

He was released on R4000 bail in September last year and agreed to go live with his family near Pacaltsdorp as part of his bail conditions, to ensure he does not interfere with the victim or witnesses.

On August 19 last year the man, who has not yet pleaded, allegedly pinned the girl against a wall in the school's photocopying room after she had helped him hand documents out to teachers, covered her mouth with his hands an pulled her pants down before sexually assaulting and raping her. The acting principal allegedly caught him in the act and alerted the authorities which led to his arrest on August 23.

The accused however denies the incident and during this bail application testified that he only touched her hip while trying to pull himself up from under a table where he was busy picking up documents that had fallen out of the copiers' trays.
