The trial involving a 52-year-old Knysna teacher who allegedly raped and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old pupil at the Fraaisig Primary School last year is set to start in the Knysna Regional Court on Monday.
The teacher allegedly raped and sexually assaulted the girl in the school's photocopy room on the 19th of August last year.
The man, who had been a teacher for 31 years and had been with the school for 29 years, was allegedly caught red-handed by the acting principal who alerted authorities.
This subsequently led to his arrest four days later.
The accused is expected to plead today, whereafter the trial will commence.
Nine witnesses are expected to be called by the state and another two by the teacher's legal team.
