Knysna municipal manager, Dr Sitembele Vatala, has been placed on precautionary suspension.
This followed a special council meeting on Thursday after allegations that were levelled against him.
Deputy Executive Mayor, Aubrey Tsengwa, said all Councillors voted in favour of his suspension
"Council will appoint an independent investigator within seven days to probe the allegations and the municipal manager will be on suspension for the duration of the investigation."
Tsengwa said the investigator will take an in-depth look into the allegations brought against Dr Vatala, which were not specified in the statement, and will submit findings to Council within 30 days.
He said that he had not been charged with any misconduct at this time.
