Kirkwood traffic officer sentenced to 4 years in prison

A Sundays River municipality traffic official stationed at Kirkwood, has been sentenced to an effective four years imprisonment in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes court.
Joseph Fillies was found guilty of facilitating and issuing a roadworthy certificate March last year for a vehicle that was unroadworthy and receiving R800 in return.
His co-accused, Phindile Zindlani was also sentenced on Friday to four years in jail.
Two years of their sentences were suspended for a period of five years.
A third accused, Martha Plaatjies, received 24 months house arrest and also has to undertake 16 hours of community service a month.
