AbaThembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo spent his first night behind bars on Wednesday night.
This after a Mthatha High Court judge dismissed his application to have his bail extended, pending the outcome of a review application.
ENCA reports that Dalindyebo had gone to court in the hope of having the Justice Minister's decision not to pardon him reviewed.
Justice and Correctional Services Department spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga confirmed Dalindyebo's incarceration shortly before midnight.
In 2009, Dalindyebo was sentenced to an effective 15 years’ imprisonment after being convicted on various crimes ranging from culpable homicide, arson, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and kidnapping by the Mthatha High Court.
He had argued in his defence that under Eastern Cape tribal law, he had had the right to discipline his subjects.
