A five-year-old girl who was shot in the head by her 6-year-old brother has died in hospital.
The tragedy unfolded in Extension 31 in Bethelsdorp on Thursday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says it is alleged that the victim and two six-year-old boys were playing in a room with a .38 revolver when a shot went off.
She says when police arrived at the scene the firearm was removed and could not be found.
Naidu says a case of culpable homicide is under investigation as well as defeating the ends of justice.
More charges could be added as the investigation unfolds.
