The Hawks have confirmed that kidnapped Gqeberha businessman, Kelvin Naidoo, was released in the early hours of Thursday morning.
His release comes nearly a week after he was abducted outside his business in Korsten.
Naidoo is also the vice president of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber.
Earlier police confirmed that a ransom was demanded, but said more detailed information would follow throughout the day.
The 51-year-old Manufacturing and Technical Executive of Auto X stopped at his workplace at about 6 am in Korsten, when a Nissan NP200, without number plates, bumped into his vehicle forcing him to stop.
Another bakkie stopped behind him and five suspects with balaclavas got out and pulled Naidoo out of his Mercedes Benz.
He was shoved into a getaway vehicle and his kidnappers fled the scene.
Spokesperson for the Hawks Yolisa Mgolodela said a ransom demand was made mere hours after the kidnapping.
She did not divulge the amount as it was not protocol to do so.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber expressed immense relief at Naidoo's release and his return home to his family.
"Our prayers and thoughts continue to be with him and his family, and that the healing may begin," said CEO, Denise van Huysteen.
