Organisers of this year's Nieu Bethesda festival plan to erect a huge mock-up of an oil well on fire, to highlight the environmental dangers of fracking in the Karoo.
Festival organiser Paula Kingwill says fracking is a threat to every single inhabitant in the area.
She says residents and festival goers will gather in the centre of the village at 5pm on Saturday to witness the six-metre-tall oil well mock-up going up in flames.
Its expected that the Nieu Bethesda Festival will see a large number of tourists descend on the tiny Karoo village to experience three days of art exhibitions, music, street and theatre performances, workshops and markets, featuring both local and national talent.
