Kariega SPCA hits rock bottom as cash flow dries up

The SPCA in Kariega has hit rock bottom due to the non-payment of funds by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

According to the SPCA, the metro owes the organisation more than R600 000.

SPCA District Chairperson, Deirdré Swift says there are not enough funds to pay staff salaries and their suppliers.

"Unless the municipality makes payment as a matter of urgency, today, or early tomorrow morning, we are going to have exactly the same problem with everything else, including the payment of staff salaries tomorrow."

Swift says there is not enough money in the bank to pay staff and described the situation as shocking.

"I have had no direct communication from anybody at the municipality regarding the issue of non-payment" she added.

Metro spokesperson, Mamela Ndamase says there were issues of inconsistency in the payment rate that required an authorisation process.

According to her, the process also required verification, which is well underway.
