One of Nelson Mandela Bay's most loved K9 dogs has made yet another arrest despite being kicked in the face by a suspect.
K9 Max and his handler, Sergeant Adriaan Oosthuizen, followed up on information about a suspect who evaded arrest in Walmer Heights on Thursday after fleeing on foot from a stolen Toyota Corolla.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the K9 duo tracked down the suspect on Sunday in Zwide.
She says the man, armed with a knife, tried to escape through the backdoor of his home and when he ignored instructions to stop, Max was released.
She says the suspect was desperate to get away and kicked Max in the face before jumping over a boundary wall.
Colonel Naidu says despite the blow, Max was undeterred and pursued and apprehended the suspect.
She says on searching his house, several suspected stolen goods were found including five boat fuel tanks, a blue light, a music box, boat ropes, and a cellphone.
The 33-year-old suspect was detained on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in court soon.
His 35-year-old passenger was arrested on the scene last Thursday.
The Toyota Corolla, which was fitted with false number plates and reported stolen in Jeffreys Bay in January, was confiscated by police.
Inside the car, police found amplifiers, subwoofers, vehicle batteries, a tent cover, a hydraulic jack, tools, a gate battery, a boat petrol tank as well as other suspected stolen items.
Colonel Naidu says detectives are probing possible links to several cases of housebreakings in the Kabega Park, Walmer and Mount Road areas.
